Autoworld celebrates International Labour Day 2021
On May 1st 2021, Autoworld Zambia was happy to celebrate and acknowledge the achievements of its employees by awarding several prizes and certificates. This year managers nominated 15 employees for certificates in various categories. From this group of certificate winners, two employees were specially selected as prize winners.
Smart Ng'uni and Andrew Mwanza each won a genset - Smart for his hard work and Andrew for his honesty. Andrew is a salesman in the main shop on Freedom Way Lusaka, and Smart works at the Autoworld Kitwe Branch. Andrew has worked at Autoworld for the last ten years, and Smart for the last seven years.
The following employees each received a certificate for their hard work: Francis Choolwe (Salesman at Main Shop), Robert Nyirenda (Assistant Salesman at Downtown Shop), Webster Chilufya (General Worker at Downtown Warehouse), Dean Tandeo (Technician at Woodlands Branch) and Conellius Munyeka (Warehouse Clerk at Main Warehouse).
The following employees received a certificate in the ‘most improved’ category: Victor Silwimba (Technician at Kapiri Mposhi Branch), Victor Miller (Technician at Livingstone Branch), Webster Lukali (Salesman at Comesa Branch), Ephraim Nkhoma (Salesman at Cairo Rd Branch), George Mbasela (Technician at Impala Service Station) and Moses Manda (Purchasing Clerk at Downtown Head Office).
And the following employees received a certificate for their honesty: John Chomba (General Worker at Kitwe Branch) and Kaluba Mtamira (Audit Assistant at Downtown Accounts Office).

Why is my car failing to start in the cold weather?

Cooler weather can cause problems with car batteries due to damage that has accumulated during the summer months! High temperatures may speed up plate corrosion and cause electrolytes to vaporise faster.
In winter, when the battery is colder and the motor oil is thicker, your battery may no longer be able to turn the engine
That's the time to think about a new battery, especially if it's 3 - 4 years old. However regular checks and general vehicle maintenance will prolong the life of your battery.

Men more likely to speed than women, UK research finds
UK research has found that men are almost twice as likely as women to break the speed limit while driving. Telematics insurance firm insurethebox analysed more than five billion miles of driving data, and discovered that "boy racers" behaved the worst, speeding 130% more than girls of the same age. However women in their forties are found to speed two per cent more than their male counterparts! Read more here

In fact Zambia stands to benefit from the transition from petrol-based fuel to electric power as the batteries used to store the power in electric cars need cobalt in their manufacture. And Zambia has cobalt in abundance as a bi-product of copper.
In addition the charging time for electric car batteries is getting shorter - see this recent article in the UK’s Guardian newspaper.
But for Zambia, as for any other country, there is one big challenge - that of infrastructure. You will be able to charge your electric car at home overnight, which will work for school and shopping trips. But to cater for longer distances, instead of gas stations, the country will need a web of charging stations. And this is going to take time to develop. So don't think of exchanging your petrol car for a Tesla just yet!!

Oil change alert + September monthly special from Autoworld
Engine oil is absolutely essential for your car (engines can run without oil for less than 30 minutes). And it's not just the quantity of oil that's important. It's also vital that the oil quality is good.
"Dark colored, cloudy or gritty textured oil is a sign the lubricating components of the oil have been exposed to heat for too long and needs to be changed. Adding oil instead of an oil change at this point could cause engine issues. This used oil needs to be removed to allow new oil to lubricate your engine's parts." Global Automotive Jan 17 2020

International Women's Day March Past 2020 by Annie Zulu
Autoworld ladies (and gents) took part in the International Women’s Day march past in Lusaka on March 8th 2020. The theme this year was “I am Generation Equality; Realising Women’s Rights” and the salute was taken by President Edgar Lungu.
It was a very hot day! We started off at 07:00hrs from the ZESCO flyover bridge, and only reached the show grounds at 13:00hrs.
The occasion was full of colour and glamour. And we were not left out - the outfits worn by the Autoworld participants were splendid. The smiling faces in the pictures say thank you to Autoworld Management for supporting the company’s participation at this event.
